Today the first ever Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSEC) of Canada conference, re:Vision 2010, kicks off in Toronto, Ontario. With students, innovation centers, coworking spaces and an increasingly vibrant startup scene, Toronto is a place to watch.

So in response to Nathaniel’s question of whether Toronto is the next social innovation hub our answer is a resounding “YES!” Incidentally, this was echoed by the Center of Social Innovation on their facebook fan page yesterday.

Check out Nathaniel’s full blog post here: Change.org: Is Toronto The Next Social Innovation Hub?

A big thank you to Nathaniel for his great work and contribution in the area of social change, and for being a part of the immensely successful re:Vision 2010.

To keep up to date with what’s next for Young Social Entrepreneurs of Canada, and how you can get involved, refer to our website.

SiG@MaRS delivers social entrepreneurship programming and advisory support as a partner program of MaRS. Social Innovation Generation (SiG) is a collaborative partnership among The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation of Montreal; the University of Waterloo; the MaRS Discovery District of Toronto, and the PLAN Institute of Vancouver.

SiG@MaRS’ goal is to promote a robust innovation culture in Canada specifically social innovations that meet social and environmental goals.

When asked why SIG@MaRS decided to partner with YSEC for our inaugural conference Cheryl May, Advisor and Director of Social Entrepreneurship, replied:

The Social Innovation advisory service at MaRS works with social entrepreneurs from all sectors who are fuelled by inspiration and vision, and a drive to combine good business with doing good. YSEC is a tremendous force because it brings youth into the realm of social entrepreneurship, and when I see the enormous movement of people who are embracing social entrepreneurship, I am buoyed by the knowledge that the future is in good hands.

Thanks for your vote of confidence and support Cheryl May and SIG@MaRS!

This means that Bullfrog Power will inject renewable electricity onto our local grid to match the event’s usage. Bullfrog’s electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear.

Making the choice for clean, green power is a breeze. Bullfrog Power is available throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Thousands of Canadians have already chosen to bullfrogpower their homes, condos, apartments, offices and businesses. We invite you all to visit Bullfrog Power on the web at www.bullfrogpower.com

This weekend was all about press: editing our press kit, writing this week's press release, and getting all our messaging settled for the final home-stretch.
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to everyone attending re:Vision 2010 — the inaugural conference of The Young Social Entrepreneurs of Canada (YSEC).

Canada’s young people have the ideas and commitment vital to creating positive change through entrepreneurial action. That is why I wish to commend YSEC for its dedication to supporting youth organizations and youth involved in creating social enterprises. This fine organization is playing an important role in assisting Canadian youth to make the world a better place by balancing social and economic goals simultaneously.

Bringing together leaders aged 17 to 30 from across Canada, this conference will enable young men and women interested in social entrepreneurship to enhance their knowledge, gain insights from accomplished professionals, hone their leadership and collaborative skills, and network with peers. I would like to thank the organizers and volunteers with YSEC for making this event possible.

Please accept my best wishes for a successful and enjoyable conference.
